Nicotinamide mononucleotide, abbreviated NMN, is a naturally occurring nucleotide. Its structure combines a nicotinamide ring, a ribose sugar, and a phosphate group. The compound exists in cells as an intermediate in the production of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, a central redox cofactor. NMN is distinct from nicotinamide riboside, another related pyridine nucleotide, although the two compounds can converge in metabolic pathways. Its chemical formula is C11H15N2O8P, and it carries a net negative charge at physiological pH.
In the salvage pathway, NMN is generated from nicotinamide and 5-phosphoribosyl-1-pyrophosphate by the enzyme nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase. A second route produces NMN from nicotinamide riboside through phosphorylation by nicotinamide riboside kinases. NMN is then converted to NAD+ by nicotinamide mononucleotide adenylyltransferases, often called NMNAT enzymes. This stepwise route allows cells to recycle nicotinamide and maintain NAD+ levels under changing metabolic conditions. The relative contribution of each route varies by tissue, species, and physiological state, and it remains an active area of research.
Research on NMN has expanded because NAD+ concentrations decline with age in some tissues and because NAD+ participates in energy metabolism, DNA repair, and signaling. Animal studies have reported changes in NAD+ levels after NMN administration, but human data are more limited and often focus on safety, pharmacokinetics, and biomarker changes. Questions remain about oral absorption, tissue distribution, and whether changes in blood NAD+ reflect changes inside specific organs. NMN is not an approved drug, and claims about its clinical effects should be distinguished from established biochemical findings.
Regulatory treatment varies by country. In the United States, NMN has been marketed as a dietary supplement, but the Food and Drug Administration has stated that it is excluded from the dietary supplement definition because it was authorized for investigation as a new drug before being marketed as a supplement. Other jurisdictions may treat it as a novel food, a supplement, or an unapproved drug ingredient. Import and sale rules can therefore differ substantially.
Quality control for NMN focuses on identity, purity, residual solvents, heavy metals, and microbial limits. Because the molecule can absorb water, moisture content and packaging are relevant to shelf life. Suppliers may provide certificates of analysis, but independent verification is often needed for research or commercial use. The long-term stability of different crystal forms, salt forms, and formulations is not fully characterized in the public literature. Some degradation products and their effects on product performance remain open questions.

Terminology around NMN can be confusing because several related compounds share the vitamin B3 family. Nicotinamide riboside is a nucleoside, whereas NMN is a nucleotide with a phosphate group, and NAD+ is a dinucleotide coenzyme rather than a simple precursor. Niacin and nicotinamide are also NAD+ precursors but follow different metabolic entry points. In commercial and scientific writing, NMN usually refers to beta-nicotinamide mononucleotide unless another form is specified. Consistent nomenclature helps distinguish chemical identity from proposed biological effects.
Nicotinamide mononucleotide, commonly abbreviated NMN, is a pyridine nucleotide that consists of a nicotinamide ring, a ribose sugar, and a phosphate group. It is an intermediate in the salvage pathway for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, or NAD+, synthesis. In mammalian cells, the enzyme nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase produces NMN from nicotinamide and phosphoribosyl pyrophosphate. Nicotinamide mononucleotide adenylyltransferases then convert NMN into NAD+. The core structure and enzymatic route are well established in biochemical literature.
The biologically relevant form of NMN is generally the beta anomer, which is recognized by NMN adenylyltransferases. NMN is polar and water soluble, and it does not readily diffuse across lipid membranes without assistance. Whether intact NMN enters cells through a specific transporter remains an open question; some studies propose solute carrier family members, while other work favors extracellular dephosphorylation to nicotinamide riboside followed by uptake. This transport and compartmentalization debate affects how researchers interpret oral administration studies. The distinction between intracellular synthesis and extracellular delivery is central to current discussion.
Commercial NMN is produced through enzymatic or chemical routes, and the resulting material can vary in purity, counterion, and residual solvent content. Buyers typically rely on certificates of analysis, but independent verification through third-party laboratories provides stronger assurance. Regulatory treatment differs by country; in the United States, NMN has been subject to shifting guidance about its status as a dietary supplement, while other markets permit sales under local rules. No universal pharmacopeial monograph exists for NMN, so specifications often come from suppliers, research protocols, or regional requirements.
Solid NMN is generally handled as a moisture-sensitive compound. Dry material stored desiccated at low temperature, protected from light, tends to remain stable for extended periods. Aqueous solutions are less stable and can undergo hydrolysis, especially at elevated temperature or alkaline pH. The anomeric form also matters: beta-NMN is the naturally occurring form, while alpha-NMN can appear as a synthetic impurity. Purity and storage conditions therefore influence both analytical results and experimental reproducibility.
Dietary sources of NMN include small amounts in certain vegetables, fruits, and other foods, although exact values vary by sample and method. Endogenous NMN concentrations are tightly regulated and often low, making measurement in blood or tissues technically demanding. After oral intake, NMN is thought to be rapidly metabolized in the intestine and liver, and intact NMN may not reach all tissues at high levels. Some rodent studies report increases in tissue NAD+ after oral NMN, while human data remain limited and sometimes rely on blood NAD+ metabolites rather than direct tissue measures.
Research on NMN has focused on aging, metabolic regulation, exercise capacity, and insulin sensitivity, but findings are preliminary. Many human trials are small, short in duration, and use different endpoints, which complicates comparison across studies. No national regulator has approved NMN as a therapeutic drug for any indication. In some countries it is sold as a supplement or research chemical, while other jurisdictions have questioned its status under food or supplement laws. Claims about extending human lifespan or reversing aging are not supported by established clinical evidence.
Nicotinamide mononucleotide, abbreviated NMN, is a naturally occurring nucleotide found in the cells of many organisms, including bacteria, plants, and mammals. Its structure consists of a nicotinamide ring attached to a ribose-phosphate group. NMN functions as an intermediate in the NAD+ salvage pathway, a recycling route that regenerates nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. The enzyme nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase produces NMN from nicotinamide and phosphoribosyl pyrophosphate. A second enzyme, NMN adenylyltransferase, then converts NMN into NAD+.
In the cobalamins, cobalt normally exists in the trivalent state, Co(III). However, under reducing conditions, the cobalt center is reduced to Co(II) or even Co(I), which are usually denoted as B12r and B12s, for reduced and super reduced respectively. B12r and B12s can be prepared from cyanocobalamin by controlled potential reduction, or chemical reduction using sodium borohydride in alkaline solution, zinc in acetic acid, or by the action of thiols. Both B12r and B12s are stable indefinitely under oxygen-free conditions. B12r appears orange-brown in solution, while B12s appears bluish-green under natural daylight, and purple under artificial light. B12s is one of the most nucleophilic species known in aqueous solution. This property allows the convenient preparation of cobalamin analogs with different substituents, via nucleophilic attack on alkyl halides and vinyl halides. For example, cyanocobalamin can be converted to its analog cobalamins via reduction to B12s, followed by the addition of the corresponding alkyl halides, acyl halides, alkene or alkyne. Steric hindrance is the major limiting factor in the synthesis of the B12 coenzyme analogs. For example, no reaction occurs between neopentyl chloride and B12s, whereas the secondary alkyl halide analogs are too unstable to be isolated. This effect may be due to the strong coordination between benzimidazole and the central cobalt atom, pulling it down into the plane of the corrin ring. The trans effect determines the polarizability of the Co–C bond so formed.
== Toxicology == Like other amatoxins, amaninamide is an inhibitor of RNA polymerase II. Upon ingestion, it binds to the RNA polymerase II enzyme which completely prevents mRNA synthesis, effectively causing cytolysis of hepatocytes (liver cells) and kidney cells.
== Rhodes Scholar == Florey decided to pursue medical research, a speciality that required study overseas. In August 1920, he applied for a Rhodes Scholarship to pursue his studies at the University of Oxford in England. His selection as the successful candidate for South Australia was announced on 8 December. This was a high honour, and came with a stipend of £300 (equivalent to $47,000 in 2022). The Rhodes Committee wanted him to commence in October, the start of the academic year at Oxford. This meant either postponing his scholarship for a year or deferring his final qualifying examinations for his medical degrees until he returned. Florey insisted that he would do neither; he would take his examinations and start at Oxford at the commencement of the Hilary term in January 1922. With the aid of the Governor of South Australia, Sir Archibald Weigall, Florey won the argument. He passed his examinations with second-class honours, and he was awarded his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree in absentia in December 1921. During the summer break he went to Broken Hill Hospital, where he worked as a clinical assistant. On 11 December 1921, Florey embarked for England from Port Adelaide on the SS Otira, an ocean liner of the Shaw, Savill & Albion Line, travelling for free as the ship's surgeon. The ship reached Hull on 24 January 1922, and Florey took a train to London, where his sister Anne met him at King's Cross Station. Two days later he left for Oxford, where he met with the Secretary of the Rhodes Trust, Francis James Wylie.
237Np decays via the neptunium series, which terminates with thallium-205, which is stable, unlike most other actinides, which decay to stable isotopes of lead. Until the discovery of its alpha decay (with an extremely long half-life), the series was thought to end with bismuth-209. In 2002, 237Np was shown to be capable of sustaining a chain reaction with fast neutrons, as in a nuclear weapon, with a critical mass of around 60 kg. However, it has a low probability of fission on bombardment with thermal neutrons, which makes it unsuitable as a fuel for light water nuclear power plants (as opposed to fast reactor or accelerator-driven systems, for example).

== Organizational structure == The Commission consists of the chairman and other members appointed by the President of the Republic of India. Usually, the Commission consists of 9 to 11 members, including the chairman. Every member holds office for a term of six years or until he attains the age of sixty-five years, whichever is earlier. The terms and conditions of service of the chairman and members of the commission are governed by the Union Public Service Commission (Members) Regulations, 1969. The chairman and any other member of the commission can submit their resignation at any time to the President of India. They may be removed from their office by the President of India on the ground of misbehavior (only if an inquiry of such misbehavior is made and upheld by the Supreme Court) or if he is adjudged insolvent, or engages during the term of office in any paid employment outside the duties of their office, or in the opinion of the president unfit to continue in office because of the infirmity of mind or body.
Chemicals produce a wide variety of clinical and pathological hepatic injury. Biochemical markers (e.g. alanine transferase, alkaline phosphatase and bilirubin) are often used to indicate liver damage. Liver injury is defined as a rise in either (a) ALT level more than three times of upper limit of normal (ULN), (b) ALP level more than twice ULN, or (c) total bilirubin level more than twice ULN when associated with increased ALT or ALP. Liver damage is further characterized into hepatocellular (predominantly initial Alanine transferase elevation) and cholestatic (initial alkaline phosphatase rise) types. However they are not mutually exclusive and mixed types of injuries are often encountered. Specific histo-pathological patterns of liver injury from drug-induced damage are discussed below.
On August 31, 2022, FIFA president Gianni Infantino confirmed that six CONCACAF teams would qualify for the World Cup, with Canada, Mexico, and the United States automatically qualifying as hosts. This was confirmed by the FIFA Council on February 14, 2023. Immediately prior to the 67th FIFA Congress, the FIFA Council approved the slot allocation during a meeting in Manama, Bahrain. This included an inter-confederation playoff tournament involving six teams to decide the last two FIFA World Cup spots. The six teams in the playoffs comprised one team from each confederation excluding UEFA, and one additional team from the confederation of the host countries (CONCACAF). Two of those teams were seeded based on the World Rankings, and they played the winners of two knockout matches between the four unseeded teams for the two FIFA World Cup berths. The four-match tournament was played in Mexico, one of the host countries, and was also used as a test event for the FIFA World Cup. The ratification of slot allocation also gave the OFC a guaranteed berth in the final tournament for the first time: the 2026 FIFA World Cup was the first tournament in which all six confederations had at least one guaranteed berth and also the first time since the 2010 edition in which all confederations had a team qualify for the World Cup finals. Of the 48 qualified teams, 26 also appeared in the 2022 edition. Highlights include:
== Applications == BMP has been shown to remain stable, without breaking down, in high-heat pasteurization and sterilization conditions, making it possible for potential use for culinary purposes. Those advocating for the presence of BMP's flavor-enhancing umami taste report that its taste is similar to that of monosodium glutamate. Consequently, BMP possesses potential for large-scale commercialization in the food industry. However, the primary obstacle is the cost of mass production associated with the peptide. Currently, the main modes of production for specific flavor peptides such as BMP are chemical and enzymatic synthesis, both of which involve high production costs.
=== Formulations === Codeine is marketed as both a single-ingredient drug and in combination preparations with paracetamol (as co-codamol: e.g., brands Paracod, Panadeine, and the Tylenol-with-codeine series, including Tylenol 3 and 1, 2, and 4); with aspirin (as co-codaprin); or with ibuprofen (as Nurofen Plus). These combinations provide greater pain relief than either agent alone (drug synergy). Codeine is also commonly marketed in products containing codeine with other pain killers or muscle relaxers, as well as codeine mixed with phenacetin (Emprazil with codeine No. 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5), naproxen, indomethacin, diclofenac, and others, as well as more complex mixtures, including such mixtures as aspirin + paracetamol + codeine ± caffeine ± antihistamines and other agents, such as those mentioned above. Codeine-only products can be obtained with a prescription as a time-release tablet. Codeine is also marketed in cough syrups with zero to a half-dozen other active ingredients, and a linctus (e.g., Paveral) for all of the uses for which codeine is indicated. Injectable codeine is available for subcutaneous or intramuscular injection only; intravenous injection is contraindicated, as this can result in nonimmune mast-cell degranulation and resulting anaphylactoid reaction. Codeine suppositories are also marketed in some countries

NMN stands for nicotinamide mononucleotide. It is a naturally occurring nucleotide and an intermediate in the cellular production of NAD+.
No. NMN is a smaller precursor molecule, while NAD+ is a dinucleotide cofactor used in many reactions. Enzymes called NMNAT convert NMN into NAD+ inside cells.
This question is not fully settled. Some evidence suggests NMN may be dephosphorylated to nicotinamide riboside before uptake, while other studies propose direct transport. Tissue-specific handling in humans remains an open research area.
Laboratory samples are often kept cool, dry, and protected from light, with frozen storage used for longer periods. Finished products should follow label instructions and avoid excessive heat or moisture.
